Biografie Dominik Messiaen
In 1973 Dominik lets out his first cry. Eighteen years later, he starts studying languages. Another four years later, in 1991, he leaves with a master's degree in applied linguistics and a teacher's degree. Until then, everything is going according plan for the parents.
Then Dominik begins the search for his artistic identity. He attends numerous courses: mime, theater improvisation, clowning, juggling, acrobatics, ventriloquism and dance (tap dance, dance improvisation, ballroom dancing and breakdance). He does a masterclass with the rumored mime player Marcel Marceau (F), follows masterclasses with top magician Jeff Mc Bride (USA) and passes the auditions for the "Mimenschule Ilg" (Switzerland) and the "Formation artistique pour les Arts du Cirque" (B). Finally, in 2000, he opts for a professional theater training at the "Ecole Internationale de théâtre Lassaad" (B).
The acquired knowledge and skills result in Dominik Messiaen's inimitable style. Elegant as a dancer, endearing as a clown, astonishing as a wizard and eloquent and funny by nature. With his boyish appearance he charms every audience and his versatility surprises friend and foe.
When the police contacts Dominik with the question whether he can give a pickpocket demonstration for Neighborhood Information Networks, he goes to the German top pickpocket Christian Lindemann. He learns the tricks of the trade from him. Over the years, Dominik develops his own techniques and develops into a pickpocket expert.
During a gathering of pickpockets in the UK, he witnesses a hypnosis act. His interest is piqued and he gradually integrates hypnosis into his walk-around act and develops a hypnosis show. In the same period, around 2013, Dominik's busy life takes its toll and he gets 2 severe migraine attacks a week. Desperate, Dominik himself seeks the help of a hypnotist. And with success!
Impressed with the result, he follows the hypnotherapy training at the European Hypnosis Academy. However, he does not start working as a therapist himself. Although he likes to help people, he prefers not to combine entertainment and therapy. Only much later does he allow himself to be convinced by the repeated question from spectators who ask him for help after the hypnosis show. After all, first he forwarded the people to colleagued, but if it turns out that the people do not contact his colleagues, he feels morally obliged to help those people himself. As an ex-teacher, father of two gifted children and husband of a medical specialist, this role seems like a perfect fit for him. Despite this, he originally limited himself to helping people who were in a deep trance during his hypnosis performance. He does this for free in return and as a thank you for their trust. Due to the high demand, he decides to help other people from September 1, 2022.

In 2018 he takes Walter Janssens (director of Kommilfoo) under the arm and reworks his hypnosis show into a full evening theater performance . The result? Let yourself be surprised and judge for yourself!

De opgedane kennis en vaardigheden resulteren in Dominik Messiaen zijn onnavolgbare stijl. Elegant als een danser, vertederend als een clown, verbazingwekkend als een tovenaar en welbespraakt en grappig van nature. Met zijn jongensachtige uiterlijk charmeert hij elk publiek en door zijn veelzijdigheid verrast hij vriend en vijand.
Als de politie Dominik contacteert met de vraag of hij een zakkenroller demonstratie kan geven voor Buurt Informatie Netwerken, trekt hij naar de Duitse toppickpocket Christian Lindemann. Van hem leert hij de knepen van het vak. Door de jaren heen ontwikkelt Dominik zijn eigen technieken en ontpopt zich tot een pickpocket expert.
Tijdens een bijeenkomst van pickpockets in de UK is hij getuige van een hypnose act door Sean Michael Andrews. Zijn interesse is gewekt en hij integreert de hypnose geleidelijk aan in zijn walk-around act en ontwikkelt een hypnoseshow. In diezelfde periode, rond 2013, eist Dominik zijn drukke leven zijn tol en krijgt hij 2 zware migraine aanvallen per week. Ten einde raad zoekt Dominik de hulp van een hypnotiseur. En met succes!
Onder de indruk van het resultaat volgt hij de hypnotherapie opleiding aan de European Hypnosis Academy gevolgd door een aantal masterclasses. In al die opleidingen mist hij echter de wetenschappelijke en medische achtergrond die enkel artsen kunnen meegeven. Daarom maakt hij heel bewust de keuze om zelf niet aan de slag te gaan als therapeut of coach. Hoewel hypnose in sommige gevallen een heel effectieve tool kan zijn, is hij van mening dat die met de nodige omzichtigheid en in de juiste omstandigheden moet worden gebruikt door medisch of psychologisch geschoolde en gediplomeerde hulpverleners.
Toch laat de hypnose microbe hem niet los en neemt hij in 2018 Walter Janssens (regisseur van Kommilfoo) onder de arm en herwerkt zijn hypnoseshow tot een heuse avondvullende theatervoorstelling. Daarin laat hij zien dat showhypnose ook op een respectvolle manier kan.
